By Amanda Bicknell (This image is from the FEMA Photo Library.) [Public domain], via Wikimedia CommonsA mobile home fire in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada is due to a crack in a fire box in a faulty furnace according to a story in DailyHeraldTribune.com. Fire Marshall Mark Whelpton tells reporters the cause has been determined to be a recalled furnace, which caused some $25,000 in damages. Whelpton also says other homes in the Silver Pointe community could have the exact same furnaces and steps will be taken to prevent another fire. The recalled furnaces were sold from 1995 to 2000 as original equipment and as replacement furnaces in manufactured homes. Coleman, Coleman Evcon and Red T brand gas furnaces are the main brands that were recalled. According to the latest report on manufactured home fire safety published in July 2011 by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), manufactured homes have a lower incidence of fire per 1,000 homes than other occupied one or two-family dwellings.
